# Perceptible **Trait Number:** 6 **Layer:** Physical **Bit Position:** 6 **Binary Encoding:** `00000100 00000000 00000000 00000000` **UHT Code (self-encoding):** `04 00 00 00` --- # Icon ![[Icon6.png|200]] ## Definition The entity can be **directly detected through sensory input**, whether by human senses or sensory instruments. It is observable, measurable, or otherwise available to perception. --- ## When to Apply Use this trait when the entity: - Can be **seen, heard, touched, smelled, or measured** - Has features that are accessible to a **sensor or observer** - Emits signals, has shape, or causes an effect that can be perceived Avoid applying if the entity: - Exists only **conceptually**, **symbolically**, or **virtually** without expression - Requires inference or indirect reasoning to detect - Has no observable manifestation or trace --- ## Examples - A flashing light - A physical book - A tone produced by a speaker - A heartbeat detected by a stethoscope - The scent of a flower - A touchscreen interface --- ## Commentary Perceptibility defines an **interface to the world** — something becomes perceptible when it **crosses into awareness**, whether by biological senses or technological means. Some entities (e.g., an electric field or a gene) may be *perceptible indirectly* through instruments, and still qualify. The key distinction is whether **the entity has detectable form or signal**, as opposed to being completely abstract or latent. --- **© 2025 Steven Holland.
